This Week in Bluegrass: April 20 - April 26

Alright, y'all, it's that time of the week again - time to talk about some of the hottest bluegrass shows happening across the country. And let me tell you, this week is packed with some serious talent, from seasoned veterans to up-and-coming stars. So, grab your banjo, tune up your mandolin, and let's dive in.

Béla Fleck Holds Court

If there's one name that's synonymous with virtuosic bluegrass banjo, it's Béla Fleck. And this week, the master himself is hitting the road for a string of six shows, kicking things off on Tuesday in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Béla's always been known for pushing the boundaries of the genre, so you can bet he'll be pulling out all the stops - maybe even a few tunes from his latest genre-blending album. If you're in the Northeast, do yourself a favor and catch one of these shows. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Sierra Hull Shines in the Pacific Northwest

Speaking of bluegrass prodigies, Sierra Hull is making her way to the West Coast this week, with a show in Vashon, Washington on Tuesday. This young mandolin phenom has been blowing minds since she was a teenager, and her latest album, "25 Trips," is a testament to her incredible musicianship. If you're in the Seattle area, this is a can't-miss performance. Sierra's always got a few surprises up her sleeve, so keep your ears peeled for some unexpected twists and turns.

Never Come Down and Kitchen Dwellers Hold it Down

On the other side of the country, we've got a couple of bands that are really making waves in the bluegrass scene. First up, Never Come Down is playing a show at The Foghouse in San Francisco on Monday. These guys have been tearing it up on the festival circuit, and their high-energy performances are the stuff of legend. If you're in the Bay Area, do yourself a favor and check 'em out.

And over in Sandpoint, Idaho, the Kitchen Dwellers are bringing their unique brand of "galaxy grass" to The Hive on Wednesday. These guys have been blending bluegrass, jam, and psychedelic rock in the most delicious way, and their live shows are always a wild ride. If you're in the mood for something a little out of the ordinary, this is the show for you.

A Few Other Highlights

Of course, there are plenty of other great shows happening this week. Old Crow Medicine Show is taking the stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Tuesday, and The Jacob Jolliff Band is playing the Nashville Symphony Schermerhorn Symphony Center, also on Tuesday. And if you're in the mood for some international bluegrass flavor, check out New Aliquot's shows in the Czech Republic on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Oh, and let's not forget about the festival action happening at MerleFest in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Sister Sadie, Hog Slop String Band, Fireside Collective, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Broken Compass are all on the bill, and you know it's going to be a bluegrass blowout for the ages.

Alright, folks, that's just a taste of what's in store this week. Be sure to head over to GrassGigs.com to check out the full listings and plan your bluegrass adventures. And remember, whether you're seeing a seasoned pro or a rising star, the most important thing is to have fun and let the music take you away. Happy pickin'!
